A Copa do Mundo de 2026 coloca a segurança da América do Norte à prova

México, Estados Unidos e Canadá aceleram os preparativos para receber milhões de torcedores

Pela primeira vez na história, três países compartilharão a organização de uma Copa do Mundo da FIFA. México, Estados Unidos e Canadá receberão conjuntamente o torneio de 2026, uma edição recorde que contará com 48 seleções nacionais, 104 partidas e uma audiência global estimada em mais de 5 bilhões de espectadores. Nunca antes um evento esportivo exigiu um nível tão elevado de coordenação transfronteiriça na América do Norte.

A dimensão econômica também é extraordinária. Estudos da FIFA e de organismos econômicos estimam que o torneio poderá gerar mais de US$ 40 bilhões em atividade econômica, além de centenas de milhares de empregos temporários ligados ao turismo, hotelaria, transporte, construção e serviços. Mais de 6 milhões de torcedores são esperados nos estádios ao longo da competição.

Os Estados Unidos assumirão a maior parte da operação. O país sediará 78 das 104 partidas, incluindo a final, e receberá jogos em 11 cidades-sede, entre elas Nova York, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas e Atlanta. Somente a região metropolitana de Nova York–Nova Jersey espera receber mais de um milhão de visitantes relacionados ao torneio.

O México fará história ao se tornar o primeiro país a sediar três Copas do Mundo, após as edições de 1970 e 1986. Cidade do México, Guadalajara e Monterrey serão as cidades-sede mexicanas. As autoridades estimam que o torneio poderá gerar bilhões de dólares para a economia nacional e atrair centenas de milhares de visitantes internacionais. No entanto, a segurança continua sendo uma prioridade central. A CNN informou que o governo mexicano está implementando operações especiais que incluem vigilância reforçada em aeroportos, corredores turísticos, estádios e sistemas de transporte.

O Canadá sediará partidas em Toronto e Vancouver. Embora apresente alguns dos menores índices de criminalidade entre os países anfitriões, enfrenta desafios relacionados à capacidade hoteleira, ao transporte urbano e aos custos para visitantes. Toronto e Vancouver estão entre as cidades mais caras da América do Norte para hospedagem turística.

As diferenças entre os três países são significativas. Os Estados Unidos contam com a maior e mais moderna infraestrutura esportiva do torneio. O Canadá oferece alguns dos melhores indicadores de segurança urbana do continente. O México combina custos de viagem relativamente mais baixos com uma das culturas futebolísticas mais apaixonadas do mundo. Essa diversidade representa uma grande vantagem para a competição, mas também exige estratégias de segurança adaptadas a realidades bastante distintas.

Um dos maiores desafios será a mobilidade. Os torcedores poderão percorrer milhares de quilômetros entre sedes localizadas em três países, múltiplos fusos horários e alguns dos aeroportos mais movimentados do planeta. As autoridades preveem níveis recordes de tráfego aéreo, cruzamentos de fronteira e demanda hoteleira durante várias semanas consecutivas.

Mais do que futebol, a Copa do Mundo de 2026 tornou-se um teste para a capacidade da América do Norte de atuar como uma região integrada diante de um megaevento global. Quando o torneio começar, milhões de visitantes não avaliarão apenas os jogos e os estádios. Eles também observarão quão seguros, eficientes e preparados México, Estados Unidos e Canadá estarão para receber o mundo.
