Uma lagoa escondida em El Salvador ficou turquesa — e os viajantes estão correndo para vê-la

Uma transformação natural incomum está atraindo multidões para um dos novos destinos mais surpreendentes da América Central

Nas montanhas do leste de El Salvador, uma tranquila lagoa vulcânica se transformou repentinamente em uma das atrações naturais mais comentadas do país depois que suas águas adquiriram uma intensa coloração turquesa, atraindo viajantes curiosos, fotógrafos, observadores ambientais e famílias de várias regiões.

O fenômeno acontece na Laguna de Alegría, um lago vulcânico localizado dentro da cratera do vulcão Tecapa, no departamento de Usulután, aproximadamente 130 quilômetros a leste de San Salvador. Conhecida historicamente por suas águas sulfurosas e constantes mudanças minerais, a lagoa ocasionalmente altera sua cor dependendo da atividade vulcânica, das chuvas, da luz solar, da presença de algas e da concentração de minerais. No entanto, moradores e autoridades turísticas afirmam que o atual tom turquesa é um dos mais impressionantes vistos nos últimos anos.

Imagens e vídeos da lagoa começaram a se espalhar rapidamente nas redes sociais durante maio de 2026, provocando uma onda de turismo interno e renovando o interesse internacional pelas paisagens vulcânicas salvadorenhas. Vídeos gravados por drones mostram o lago brilhando em intensos tons azul-esverdeados, cercado por montanhas cobertas de neblina, plantações de café e terreno vulcânico.

Cientistas explicam que a coloração incomum provavelmente está relacionada ao aumento da concentração de enxofre combinado com reflexos solares e mudanças químicas na água dentro da cratera vulcânica. Fenômenos semelhantes ocorrem em lagos geotérmicos e vulcânicos ao redor do mundo, incluindo destinos na Islândia, Nova Zelândia, Indonésia, Costa Rica e Japão. Especialistas do Ministério do Meio Ambiente de El Salvador continuam monitorando a lagoa para garantir que não exista risco vulcânico imediato associado às mudanças.

A lagoa está situada a aproximadamente 1.200 metros acima do nível do mar e há décadas é cercada por lendas, folclore e histórias indígenas. Tradições locais chegaram a chamá-la de “La Alegría de los Brujos” devido aos misteriosos vapores e minerais que emergem do interior da cratera.

Autoridades de turismo relatam um forte aumento de visitantes desde que a lagoa mudou de cor. Hotéis, restaurantes, guias turísticos e operadores de transporte em cidades próximas registraram crescimento significativo nas últimas semanas. Muitos salvadorenhos estão viajando para a região em busca de trilhas, fotografia, excursões e ecoturismo.

A crescente popularidade da lagoa também reflete a transformação turística mais ampla que El Salvador vive atualmente. Nos últimos anos, o país promoveu fortemente rotas vulcânicas, surf, ecoturismo e destinos culturais como parte de um esforço para reformular sua imagem internacional. O número de visitantes estrangeiros aumentou significativamente após melhorias na segurança e expansão da infraestrutura turística.

Funcionários do Instituto Salvadorenho de Turismo afirmam que destinos ligados ao turismo de natureza e aventura estão crescendo especialmente entre jovens viajantes e turistas regionais vindos da Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica e México.

A região do vulcão Tecapa oferece muito mais do que apenas a lagoa. Os visitantes também podem explorar fazendas de café, fontes termais, mirantes montanhosos, mercados artesanais e vilarejos tradicionais conhecidos por pupusas, café local e artesanato.

No entanto, grupos ambientalistas alertam para os riscos do turismo excessivo caso o crescimento de visitantes continue sem controle. Organizações de conservação pedem melhorias na gestão de resíduos, manutenção de trilhas, controle de acesso e proteção ecológica ao redor do lago vulcânico para evitar danos ambientais.

Pesquisadores também lembram que a extraordinária coloração turquesa pode não ser permanente. Como lagos vulcânicos são ecossistemas altamente dinâmicos, a concentração mineral e a aparência visual podem mudar novamente dependendo das chuvas, atividade geotérmica e condições sazonais. Essa incerteza aumentou ainda mais o fascínio público.

Para muitos viajantes, porém, a atração vai além da ciência. A lagoa oferece uma experiência visual quase surreal: uma brilhante cratera turquesa escondida entre as montanhas vulcânicas de um dos menores países da América Central.

Enquanto turistas buscam cada vez mais destinos pouco conhecidos e experiências naturais fora dos circuitos turísticos saturados, lugares como a Laguna de Alegría começam a chamar atenção internacional.

E por enquanto, nas montanhas vulcânicas de El Salvador, uma lagoa turquesa continua silenciosamente se transformando em um dos fenômenos turísticos mais inesperados da América Central em 2026.
