Para sus críticos, representa el riesgo de que el fútbol deje de ser principalmente una institución cultural y deportiva para convertirse en otro activo financiero global controlado por intereses privados. Para miles de millones de personas representa su país, su historia y su identidad. El gran desafío de la FIFA será encontrar un equilibrio entre la innovación financiera y la responsabilidad institucional. Porque el mayor riesgo para el fútbol no es ganar demasiado dinero. El verdadero riesgo es que, en la búsqueda de un mayor valor comercial, el deporte termine perdiendo algo que no puede comprarse: la confianza de las personas que todavía creen que el fútbol les pertenece.
